Daniela Arellano
Name: Kids In Nature (KIN)
Type: Non-Profit outreach organization for low-income
students that promotes environmental sustainability
Responsibilities: Editing and writing newsletter
articles, making brochures, powerpoints, and taking pictures
Reflection: “Working with KIN, I've
learned about how a non-profit organization functions and what
it needs to continue its services. I've also had the opportunity
to use my editing and writing skills. The director, Jennifer Thorsch,
is very kind and always ensures that I benefit from the internship
as much as she is benefiting from me.”
Ashley Sanchez
Name: City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation
Department, Office of Marketing and Communications
Type: It is the responsibility of the Marketing
and Communications office to publicize these programs throughout
the Santa Barbara community to ensure that participant numbers remain
consistent and the City brings in steady revenue.
Responsibilities: As an intern in the Office of Marketing
and Communications, I am responsible for carrying out written projects
assigned to me by the Marketing and Communications supervisor.
Reflection: “Interns from the Business Communication
Professional writing minor are capable of writing and producing effective
correspondences—from letters and memorandums, to press releases
and web copy. We offer these companies the valuable skill of effective,
results-driven writing tailored specifically for their company and their
constituencies.”
Diana Oropesa
Name: Digital Consulting Services (DCS)
Type: Mission is to bring value to its clients by
recommending the best solutions for their IT requirements and implementing
those solutions to their satisfaction
Responsibilities: My main project has been
to help them with their policies and procedures.
Reflection: “Working at DCS made me realize how
crucial internal communications really is. For example, there were some
cases in which different instructions were available for the same procedure.
My project then forced them to really think it through and decide on
one cohesive method.”
